A Great Ohio Assoc. Weekend

Thanks everyone who joined us in person, virtually, and in spirit, to last weekend’s Ohio Association Annual Meeting. Their contributions and willingness to engage in the spiritual and business work of the church made for a wonderful weekend in Glendale, OH,( and on the Ohio River!)

We started off the weekend, Friday night, with a beautiful memorial service for former Cincinnati pastor, Rev. Richard “Dick” H. Tafel. His wife Linda, and his children and grandchildren were in attendance. It was joyful to share in their memories, cherished pictures and stories.

Read the article on Rev. Tafel from page 14 of March 2023’s “The Messenger”

On Saturday, we enjoyed observations and examinations on the process of, and eventual joy of regeneration, as we analyzed and stuck our “post-it” note observations to the wall. (Slides from this program will be shared on our YouTube Channel soon—please subscribe.)

We cared for, and enjoyed each other’s company at meals and on a wonderful evening dinner cruise as we watched the sun set over the beautiful Ohio river and the eventual rise of the waning Supermoon over the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge.

We finished with a beautiful worship service together on Sunday, where we raised our voices in song, and shared in Communion. And broke bread together at lunch, indulging in soups, sandwiches, salads and goodies.

We look forward to next year’s meeting in Northeast Ohio! (And this coming weekend for Homecoming Weekend!)

Please share your pictures from the Association Meeting on our facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/NewChurchCincy

#WeekendPlans: 8/13: “Thou Shalt Never Ever Give Up.” W/Rev. Dr. Jim Lawrence

Everyone who cares about their spiritual formation finds their particular trial hardest to master. It’s that challenge we often just push down and bury out of sight. God, though, knows all about this matter, and wants to liberate us from its nagging tyranny. Come learn about a useful spiritual strategy for that hardest challenge.

Rev. Dr. Jim Lawrence , President of the SCNA (Swedenborgian Church of North America)

#WeekendPlans: “You are the Light of the World” w/Rev. Cory Bradford-Watts 7/31/22

Please join us for our hybrid in-person/zoom church on Sunday, July 31, 2022. We welcome guest minister Rev. Cory Bradford-Watts from Kitchener, ON, who will join us virtually. Fellowship begins at 10:30 am, worship at 11:00 am. Zoom details will be emailed to church members and their contacts.

“You are the light of the world,” is the title of the service. These empowering words were spoken by Christ, not as an elitist view of his “Christian” followers, but as a description of the very nature of each of our spirits – especially when we allow ourselves to shine.

Rev. Bradford-Watts

“Rich people often assume a great deal of superiority on account of their wealth. They think this gives them some advantage and makes them better, and others are apt to accept their own estimate of their superiority… It is best, however, to forget our outward conditions far as possible and to feel kindly toward all, and to act out your kind feelings freely to one person as to another when opportunity offers.”

Chauncey Giles – Swedenborgian pastor 1864-1870
