Sundays at the New Church of Montgomery (@GlendaleNewChu) are vibrant due to the variety of voices that of our visiting Ministers bring to the pulpit. This is not a new idea in our church. In this “Messenger” article from 1906, we see that the Cincinnati Church at Oak and Winslow enjoyed the presence of numerous voices.
Here is the text:
Regular services were resumed September 30th, the Rev. S.S. Seward filling our pulpit on that date. Preliminary services, however, were started a month earlier to give our people an opportunity of hearing other ministers before the regular fall work in their own Societies had begun.
Our Society has greatly appreciated the assistance rendered by other ministers who, in addition to their own duties, have responded most heartily to our invitations to preach for us one, two or more Sundays and, in this manner, our pulpit has been supplied by the Rev. Messrs. King, Schreck, Hunter, Whitehead, Seward; and at present Mr. Hoeck, from Brockton, Mass, is preaching for us, to be followed by the Rev. Mr. Sperry of Bath, Mr. Dole of Wilmington, and in addition we hope to have the Rev. Mr. Smyth of New York.
The Question of the ministry is in the hands of a committee, of which Mr. George Merrell, President of the Society, is chairman. No action whatever has been taken to fill the pulpit left vacant by the decease of Mr. Mercer. Our people are united in their belief that is is most useful to make haste slowly, fully considering the situation, not only in our own Society, but in the Ohio Association as well. We are, therefore, asking the co-operation of all the ministers available without regard to permanent pastorate.
